First Year Student Move-In Information

Class of 2021

We are pleased and excited to welcome you to the Providence College campus!

All members of the class of 2021 are scheduled to move onto campus and begin orientation on Thursday, August 24th unless you have been approved to participate in any of the following pre-orientation programs:

International Student Welcome Program: Students participating in the mandatory International Student Welcome Program are scheduled to move onto campus on Friday, August 18th.  Students are asked to arrive to campus between 9:00am and 5:00pm and report directly to the Center for International Studies in Harkins Hall 215 to check in for the program and to receive access to your residence hall.  Students with an F-1 visa must also bring their passport and form I-20 with them for check in.

Urban Action: Students participating in the Urban Action program are scheduled to move onto campus on Sunday, August 20th between 9:00am and noon. Students are asked to arrive through the Huxley Avenue gate and report to the rear of Raymond Hall to check in for the program and to receive access to your residence hall. Urban Action student coordinators and Student Activities office staff will be there to greet you. (In the case of inclement weather, registration will occur in the Raymond Dining Hall Lobby.)

FaithWorks: Students participating in FaithWorks are scheduled to move onto campus on Saturday, August 19th between 8:30am and 11:00am. Students are asked to arrive through the Huxley Avenue gate and report to the rear of Raymond Hall to check in for the program and to receive access to your residence hall. FaithWorks student coordinators and campus ministry staff will be there to greet you. (In the case of inclement weather, registration will occur in the Raymond Dining Hall Lobby.)

Multicultural Student Summer Transitions Program: Students participating in the New Student Transitions program are scheduled to move onto campus on Sunday, August 20th.  Students are asked to arrive to campus between 8:00am-1:00pm and to report directly to the Concannon Atrium to check in for the program and to receive access to your residence hall. There will also be a small welcome reception for parents at 3:00pm in Slavin 112.

Advising Day: Students participating in the August 23rd Advising & Registration Day program (who have not already moved into their residence halls for pre-Orientation programming) are scheduled to move onto campus the morning of August 23rd. Students are asked to arrive on campus between 8:30am and 11:00am and report to the Office of Residence Life in Slavin Center to receive access to their residence halls.  Upon checking in at residence life, students will be able to begin moving into their rooms. Registration for the orientation program will begin at 11:00am in the Slavin Center.  Please refer to the orientation website for a schedule of that day’s required activities.

Class of 2021 Orientation Program

All members of the class of 2021 are scheduled to move onto campus and begin orientation on Thursday, August 24th unless approved to participate in any of the above pre-orientation programs.

Students arriving to campus on August 24th are asked to arrive to campus according to the following schedule:

Arrival Time by Room Number:
Odd Room Numbers (i.e. 101, 223, 807) between 7:00am and 10:30am
Even Room Numbers (i.e. 102, 224, 808) between 10:30am and 2:00pm

Upon arrival, students should report directly to their residence hall to check-in. Once students have checked-in and brought their items into their rooms, students are asked to report to the Slavin Center to check-in for the Orientation program. Please refer to the letter from the director of safety and security below for parking procedures.

Move-In Temporary Parking Permit and Parking Procedures

In order to make your move-in experience as smooth as possible, the Office of Safety and Security will have the following traffic pattern in operation for August 24th.

For all first year student residences: Guzman, McDermott, McVinney, Meagher, Raymond, Fennell and St. Joseph, enter via the Eaton Street Control Station, located at 61 Eaton St., opposite Radcliff Avenue.

The officer assigned to the gate will direct you. The campus will have a one-way system in place and Security will assist you in getting around the campus, and off the campus, to the proper lot after you unload your vehicle.

Please remember to have your residence hall, room # and cell phone information displayed on your Move-In Day Parking Permit and placed on your dashboard as you enter campus.

The Office of Security and Security will have a full complement of officers available for your assistance during the move-in period. Do not hesitate to ask questions if you feel unsure about the move-in process, or any other security related issues.  Please activate your emergency flashers while dropping off your personal items at your residence hall.

Classes of 2018, 2019, 2020

All members of the classes of 2018, 2019, and 2020 are scheduled to move onto campus on Sunday, August 27th unless you have been approved for early arrival.

We are excited to welcome you back to Providence College!  Prior to your arrival, please print and complete the Move-In Day Parking Permit.  You will need to have the parking permit displayed on your vehicle’s dashboard when you arrive.

Please Remember:  To expediate your move-in process, please log into the Residence system to ensure that you have completed all necessary information including your 2017-2018 Housing Contract.  You will not be permitted to move-in if you have not submitted all necessary information.

Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Move-In – Sunday, August 27th 

Arrival Time:  Please arrive between 8:00am-4:30pm and to report to your assigned residence hall to check-in. If you are a resident of Bedford, Davis, Suites, DiTraglia, Mal Brown, Cunningham, or Meagher, you will need to encode your ID card in the Office of Safety and Security or the Office of Residence Life BEFORE you can access your apartment/suite/room.

Move-In Parking Procedures on August 27th:  

  • All students moving into Aquinas, Meagher, St. Joseph, DiTraglia, Cunningham, or Mal Brown should enter campus through the Huxley Avenue entrance via Admiral Street.  The officer assigned to the gate will direct you accordingly.
  • All students moving into Fennell, Suites, Bedford, or Davis should enter campus through the Eaton Street gate, located at 61 Eaton Street, opposite Radcliffe Avenue.  The officer assigned to the gate will direct you accordingly.
  • Please remember to have your hall, room number and cell phone information displayed on your Move-In Day Parking Permit and placed on your dashboard as you enter campus.  Please activate your emergency flashers while dropping off your personal items at your residence hall.
  • Only Senior and Junior students who have been pre-approved by the Office of Safety and Security for a Student/Resident parking permit will be able to park their vehicles on campus after moving-in. Approved students will receive their parking sticker in their Friar Box and should display the parking sticker in the lower left corner of their driver’s side windshield.  All other students moving in will NOT be permitted to park a vehicle on campus after moving in.  Family members assisting their student with move-in will be directed to temporary parking after the vehicle has been unloaded.   If you have not been approved for a Student/Resident parking permit, you will need to remove your vehicle immediately after unloading your belongings.

Students Approved for Early Arrival

  • If you have been approved for early arrival, you will arrive on your scheduled date.  The deadline to apply for Early Arrival is August 15th.  Only requests from students who are traveling from an exceptional distance (drive more than 5 hours away from PC) or participation in a recognized sport or approved student activity will be considered for early move-in.
  • Only Senior and Junior students who have been pre-approved by the Office of Safety and Security for a Student/Resident parking permit will be able to park their vehicles on campus after moving-in.
