Voluntary Overcrowding
In order to keep friends groups together, students can voluntarily overcrowd a suite and/or apartment in McCarthy, Mal Brown, Cunningham, Ditraglia, Davis, Bedford, limited Shanley semi-suites and most traditional hall rooms by one student per semester.
- Voluntary overcrowded rooms do not receive any housing rebate.
- Voluntary overcrowding groups apply for housing through a separate process. Groups should be formed in eRezLife and one person from the group should complete the application for a maximum occupancy space. Applications are due Friday, March 6th. The application requires applicants respond to the following questions:
- Why are you choosing to voluntarily add an extra person to your housing group for next year?
- Does everyone in your group acknowledge that there are no financial incentives or rebates for voluntarily electing a maximum occupancy room?
- Has everyone in your group reviewed the room and board fees on the Bursar website and understand the price differentials and meal plan requirements among housing options?
- Please rank your building preference among the following: Davis, McCarthy, and Shanley.
- Students who apply for an maximum occupancy apartment or suite may increase the number of options available to them. It is not guaranteed your group will be approved for maximum occupancy. There are no other incentives to voluntary overcrowding other than the desire to try and keep a friend group of 5 or 7 together in the same apartment or suite.
- We do not recommend sophomores form groups of 7 in hopes of getting a 6-person apartment or suite. Most 6-person apartments or suites will be assigned to juniors and seniors on their housing selection dates.
- No more than 1 student beyond the normal occupancy is recommended. For example: A 6 person suite can only have a maximum of 7 in a semester.
- Shanley Hall does not allow any voluntary overcrowding.
- Generally, Shanley, Davis and Bedford are NOT ideal for voluntary overcrowding. The rooms are tight. Cunningham, Ditraglia, Mal Brown, and McCarthy Halls provide a little more space. If your group is looking to voluntary overcrowding, it is encouraged to speak with current students in that housing situation for feedback.
- The triple set-up is flexible so please place a work order with the Physical Plant office with specifics of your room set up by July 1st.
