Voluntary Overcrowding

In order to keep friends groups together, students can voluntarily overcrowd a suite and/or apartment in McCarthy, Mal Brown, Cunningham, Ditraglia, Davis, Bedford, and most traditional hall rooms by one student per semester.

  • Voluntary overcrowded rooms do not receive any housing rebate.
  • Voluntary overcrowding groups are given priority housing selection times – they will pick their suite or apartment ahead of their class year’s Housing Selection Date. The voluntary overcrowding group will be contacted by Kevin Hillery for a time to pick housing. The only exception to this is full sophomore groups voluntary overcrowding a 6 person McCarthy suite. These limited amount of suites are selected through the regular sophomore housing selection process.
  • No changes to housing assignments or group switches will be allowed once a voluntary overcrowded group is assigned.
  • No more than 1 student beyond the normal occupancy. For example: A 6 person suite can only have a maximum of 7 in a semester.
  • Shanley Hall does not allow any voluntary overcrowding.
  • Generally, Davis and Bedford are NOT ideal for voluntary overcrowding. The rooms are tight. Cunningham, Ditraglia, Mal Brown, and McCarthy Halls provide a little more space. If your group is looking to voluntary overcrowding, it is encouraged to speak with current students in that housing situation for feedback.
  • The triple set-up is flexible so please place a work order with the Physical Plant office with specifics of your room set up by July 1st.
